THE BEGINNING
You begin as a tarnished, waking up in an abandoned dungeon. You slowly find your way out of the dangerous dungeon. When you open the sealed door, you are presented with a beautiful otherworldly environment!
PURPOSE
You are given a purpose, and that is repairing the scattered Elden Ring and becoming the Elden Lord. On your journey, you encounter countless monsters, witness endless suffering, and overcome the impossible.
THE END
It is up to the players to decide how their journeys are going to end. The allies they made, the monsters they slew, and the path they chose all affect the end of their journey and whom they want to become.
POWERLESSNESS
Elden Ring tells a story of powerlessness. The player, an exiled tarnish who has nothing and no one, grows step by step to becoming the Elden Lord. Though it sounds like a generic story, Elden Ring's extreme difficulty emphasizes the powerlessness that its players experience. Such difficulty is what enhances the rewarding experience that the players feel when they improve.
THE OVERWHELMING FIRST MONSTER
Tree Sentinel
The very first monster you will encounter in Elden Ring will be the infamous Tree Sentinel. This monster is known to be too difficult for the area. Its existence in the starting area is an intentional game design that plants the idea of players' powerlessness deep inside of their hearts. Most players would easily died from Tree Sentinel and ended up running away from it.
BOSS ARE ALL SIGNIFICANTLY LARGER THAN THE PLAYER
Player vs Bosses
FromSoftware purposefully chooses to model Elden Ring bosses to be enormous, usually many times larger than the players. As the bosses appear in front of the players, their sizes will inevitably bring the feeling of powerlessness to the players. It also brings the rewarding feeling of defeating such enormous monsters.
